The professional trail blazers at Four Wheeler Magazine recently got the low down on a stealth project at Ford to build an extreme off-road version of the F-150, known as Project Raptor.

Rumored to have a long-travel suspension and high horsepower V8, the heavily camouflaged truck in the picture above appears to be a genuine Raptor mule.

As expected in a truck with Baja 1000 style running gear, this SuperCab mule seems to be sitting lower and wider than a typical F-150. Ford is reported to be working with long time off-road suspension manufacturer Fox Racing on the suspension components.

Also notable: the fenders bulge out, despite the black canvas, with huge wheel cuts to manage vertical wheel travel - just like a Trophy Truck. It also looks like it has 33- to 35-inch tires, needed for max off-road traction.

Stay tuned.
