'00 F150 Crew Cab

At the end of the century when today's press is caught up in the hype of cloning and genetic research, it looks like the truck company's are also into bizarre, but obviously productive, experiments.  Ford scientists have answered the question of what happens when you breed a Ford Ranger with an Explorer and cross a Ford F150 with an Expedition.

Due in early 2000 the Ford F150 Crew Cab uses the cabin of an Expedition and a cargo bed shortened by 12 inches.  It is the first truck under 8,500 lb to have four full doors and a full rear passenger area.  3 months after the F150 Crew Cab makes its debut the Explorer Sport Trac will appear on the scene.  The Sport Trac will seat 5 comfortably in the cabin of an Explorer and also comes with a shortened bed. The F150 will have a standard 4.6 liter Triton V8 and 5.4 liter option.   The Sport Trac will use a 4.0 liter, 204 HP, SOHC V6.  Both models will be available as either 4x2 or 4x4.

BRANDING QUESTION: Why does the smaller Sport Trac draw its name from the Explorer while the larger Crew Cab take its name from the F150?
