The new pickup truck from Honda will be named "Ridgeline."
Honda made the announcement at the 2004 SEMA show in Las Vegas but did
not disclose further details on the new 4-door, all-wheel-drive truck.
"We thought Ridgeline really expresses the truck itself, both the
ruggedness and the refinement," said Dan Bonawitz, vice president
in charge of corporate planning for American Honda.
Honda revealed
a concept pickup
at the 2004 Detroit Auto Show called the Honda SUT. An updated version
of that truck was shown at SEMA, sporting a new paint scheme, revised
4-wheel independent suspension and new wheel and tire package. The truck
appeared next to a display of potential aftermarket parts, including side
steps, fender flares, wheels, running boards and tow equipment. The production
Ridgeline will debut at the 2005 North American International Auto Show
in Detroit in January.
"The Ridgeline will make a great platform for customization and
we think that people are going to be truly surprised by the capabilities
of this new Honda truck," added Bonawitz.
The Ridgeline
features a fully integrated, closed-box frame with unibody construction.
Early reports say it will have a half-ton payload capacity and have "significantly
stronger body rigidity vs. traditional body-on-frame trucks." The
5-foot bed will have minimal wheel intrusion and designed to carry up
to two of Honda's largest of-road motorcycles. Power comes from a 3.5-liter
V6 engine and 5-speed automatic transmission.
