FORD
INTRODUCES SUPERCHARGED LIMITED EDITION Harley-Davidson F-150 SUPERCREW
FOR 2002

While it
may be losing its besieged CEO, Jacques Nasser, Ford is gaining a powerful
new addition to the Harley-Davidson family of trucks - a supercharged
F-150 SuperCrew for 2002.
Unveiled
today at the SEMA show in Las Vegas, by Ford President Jim O'Connor, the
new truck sports quite a few improvements over its predecessor.
The Harley's
5.4-liter supercharged engine will pump out 80 more horses over last year's
truck and 75 more ft-lbs. of torque, for a grand total of 340hp and 425ft-lbs.
The top speed has been boosted to 125-mph.
While not
quite Ford Lightning
territory, the increase in powerplant performance addresses one of the
most commonly heard requests from current Harley-Davidson F-150 owners,
according to George Magro, Ford's Harley-Davidson Alliance Manager. The
Lightning will continue to be Ford's performance truck flagship.

A two-piece
driveshaft reduces NVH levels in the truck and is mated from the 4 speed
automatic transmission to a limited slip 3.73 ratio rear differential.
A high performance
exhaust system with dual inlet/outlet muffler and "slash cut"
3-inch chrome tips rounds out the powertrain.
For the exterior,
the 2002 Harley F-150 adds a new Dark Shadow Grey paint scheme as an option
for buyers in addition to traditional Black.
A beefier,
billet-style grille hints at the more powerful engine underneath the hood
and clear headlamps also provide additional distinction. The front bumper
is color-keyed with the lower fascia.
Part of the
appeal of the Harley-Davidson F-150 is the attention to detail, which
is near obsessive, when it comes to keeping the brand identity for this
truck. Joanna Parsons, F-150 Marketing Manager, pointed out the "Bar
and Shield pattern on the border surrounding the lower windshield resembling
the Harley Davidson logo. Barely discernible within the headlights are
laser etched Bar and Shield logos that many owners will probably never
see. It's like playing "Where's Waldo" with the logo.
A color-keyed
flame pattern pinstripe appliqué runs the length of the truck.
Orange on the Black truck, Red on the Shadow Grey, the flame was personally
created and hand-drawn by Harley Davidson's famous stylist Willie G. on
the pilot truck and captured for reproduction on the 2002 model.

The Harley
F-150's 20" chromed aluminum wheels are polished to a fine sheen.
7 rivets surrounding the center caps distinguish the 2002's wheels from
the 2001's. Goodyear Eagle VR rated tires clothe the rims.
Inside the
truck the captains chairs, front and rear, sport black and grey leather
trim. Harley Davidson logos crown the headrests.
Chrome steering
column stalks, door releases and seat levers provide a machined feel to
interior parts along with a very cool "spun metal" instrument
panel with its 130-mph speedo and the words Supercharged etched in its
surface.
The gas and
brake pedals are all new and manufactured from machined aluminum.
Another Willie
G. signature touch is the leather wrapped and embossed flame pattern center
console cover.
Ford expects
to produce up to 12,000 Harley-Davidson edition F-150s for 2002 depending
on demand. The starting price is expected to be $36,495. An increase of
approximately $2000 over the 2001 model.
